OUR HISTORY
NEW YORK COLORECTAL CANCER SURVIVORSHIP & SUPPORT GROUP
The NYCRCS&SG was started back in 2010, by Dr. Roberto Bergamaschi, MD, PhD, along with Janice Fleischman Eaton, MS, RN, ANP-C and Antoinette Forster, DNP, RN, NPP. They started with group meetings, discussing any and all of our needs after our cancer diagnoses. We would meet once a month, for about an hour or so. They have brought in Doctors and speakers to enlighten us about what our bodies are going through and how to cope after surgery. We were shown how to handle our situation, medically and mentally. One thing that you learn about being a colorectal disease patient or a colorectal cancer survivor, is that there is no set result from these diseases. Everyone ends up differently on the other side, after surgery and treatments. Even though our results may be different, we have all gone through that uncertain period when we realize that we really don’t know what to expect. That is our purpose: to be there to answer any questions you, the cancer patient or your partner / caregiver may have from the moment that you are diagnosed. Please feel free to contact us for any help you may need and join us at our monthly meetings. We will be there for you, your partner and your family. As the saying goes: “IT REALLY DOES TAKE A VILLAGE”.
MIKE KILLARNEY – President of NYCRCS&SG.
My name is Angel Velez. I am the Vice President of NYCRCS&SG. I have been a member of NYCRCS&SG for 7 years, since I was first diagnosed. This group gives support to me, my family and to our members whenever it is needed. I am the “Spanish Speaking Leader” of our group. Another goal of our group is to reach out to the Spanish speaking community. This is a terrible disease and it has been a great experience to be part of such a group, who’s goal is to be there for others. STAY STRONG !!!
